Uh...no.

I thought that was why you do mostly hard drive installs on the PS3? /talkinoutmyass

Is it only region free for games? Because mine says that the region is incorrect when I try to watch a DVD from the U.S

yes, games are region free....unfortunately DVD's & Blu Ray's are region locked....but I just use PS3 for gaming....if I do decide to get any Blu Ray's in future, I'll just import US version ones....

So I can get an NTSC Blu Ray game imported from the US and it will work on my AUS PAL version PS3? But not movies at all, whether they're DVD or Blu Ray?

Yes, that's correct as strange as it sounds....I'm pretty sure you can only go Oceanic PAL for DVD & Blu Ray....

I would assume it's a move by movie companies trying to stamp out movie piracy, I dunno....

I often import games from Play Asia (Hong Kong) rather than buying them in Oz....in Oz you'll pay AUD$100-$120....which equates to like US$95-$115....whereas on Play Asia, games are like US$50-65, which after exchange rate & shipping, you'll pay AUD$60-$75, which is AUD$40-45 cheaper than buying locally....sad but true....

my next lot of games will probably be an import of NCAA Football '09, Madden '09 & maybe MGS4....should be able to pick up the 3 games slightly cheaper than I could pick up 2 full priced games in Oz....

Wow I seriously didn't know games were region free! Well now my pick would definitely have to be for PS3!

If I had the money I'd pick up a PS3 as well and a new TV in an effort to assemble the ultimate home gaming experience.

Sit needs money for beer and bail money for the ruckus he will cause as result of beer.

It really sucks to play like the PS3 on a standard def. TV, like when playing GTA, can barely read any of the text messages, and obviously can't read anything on the gta internet, same for 2K8, which makes doing the dynasty rmore troublesome.

Blu-Ray at 1x reads at like 36 Mb/s, while DVD at 1x is something like 11 Mb/s. So while the 12x DVD drive in the 360 is faster than the 2x PS3 Blu-Ray drive (and faster than the 8x DVD speed for PS3) Blu-ray is in no way slower at the same speed.

Hard drive installs are just a way to make things even faster. (Plus, they're finally big enough that console developers realized why PC ones install everything to your hard drive and just use the disc for security checks anymore.) If the 360 had allowed it before (or Xbox had bigger one), it would've been being done probably.
maybe the new God of War when it comes out too, not sure

Judging from what everyone has told me, I need to get a new LCD high def TV.

I'm getting close to 4000 back on tax so I think that should do the trick. :)

Another question: How does NBA 2K8 differ between consoles? Was there any differences or are they the same on both systems?

Would you consider going with a second hand console? I had some misgivings about it but the one I got was in excellent condition.

Will, if you are getting a console from EB, go get one from Bryn....he "might" be able to hook you up....I'll let him know you're looking at 360 sometime in next few months & send out some feelers, see if he can get you a good deal....

I would say right now the best console is 360.
But in the future it will be the PS3.

Can you do anything besides restate what the majority of the posts in this thread have said, or elaborate on anything?

Xbox has a better online and has pretty much the same graphics as PS3.
But now the PS3 graphics are surpassing the 360 games and getting better and longer games.

Yeah I second that! That's what makes the game more fun compare to the xbox 360 version. I guess I'll pick 2k9 for ps3 and live 09 for the xbox 360 cause live on x360 and ps3 has the same features.

You like the FT shooting system on the ps3? Each to their own I guess.

If you bought a 360 now you wouldn't have to worry about over heating or anything cause they've fixed all that in the new systems.
There's a simple question you have to ask your self...
Will i be playing online?
Yes? 360
No? PS3

There you go...

I would still prefer my xbox to my ps3 if there was no online. Xbox has a much bigger and better variety of games, plus the controllers are head and shoulders above the ps3's.

Completely agree (there's a first), my sentiments exactly. I love Xbox Live (and Live Arcade), but even without it I'd still prefer the games library and controller of the 360.

Also, and I know this is slightly odd, but the 360 itself looks less "flashy", which our fairly low-key living room setup really appreciates. A PS3 would look really out of place, while a white rectangle really isn't all that "sore thumb". This is specific just to my situation though :)
