EDIT: Yeah I agree with you Nick, you can still drink beer and be fit, one of the guys I train with on and off is one of the top mulitsport athletes in New Zealand and he still has a big night at least once a week, sometimes even more.

The problem with that is that not everyone's body reacts the same way. I remember some Olympic long jumper Australia had, he won a silver medal or something in Sydney, he used to eat nothing but Coke and snickers bars, along with whatever other junk food he could get his hands on and he looked like a body builder. 80% of anyone else tries that and they pack on weight like crazy, also, if he's a top multi-sport athlete then he's obviously training ALOT more than Nick would be.

Yeah very true, I think hes once a day 7 days a week, but if nick is doing exercise at least 5 or so days a week he should be sweet.

Yeah everybody is different I guess im just lucky to be one of those people who doesnt put on weight much, although having been injured for the good part of 1 1/2 years I do noticed a bit of a gain in weight

And yeah maybe trying to vary the booze you drink could help, mix it up, I try to do that but beers is so much more cheaper for a student here

I think with 3 times a week its fine , but you have to cutt all the junk food.

Eat more vegetables , and eat a bit but more times a day .

Its my sister's diet =P

Do not mix meat with potatoes , and eat meat 1 time a day.

Hope this help you

dig up the fitness thread, nick

i would change the beer thing to barcadi & diet coke. or whatever liquor you want to mix. it's cheaper, gets you loaded faster, cleaner hangover, and you don't have to piss as much

try to be active. i dont know if you're in college or just working... but both give you a lot of time to be lazy.. at least in high school, there was gym, so you were getting a decent workout 5 days a week

i don't know your diet but since you're a drinker- try to avoid having those late nite grease meals after a heavy nite of drinking ;) good luck

or you can be hardcore like whatshisname and just eat dry chicken breast and egg whites lol

Run.

Nick wrote:Seriously? Heaps of people drink beer and get no side effects. I thought if i just went for a run every 2 days i'd be fine?

Like Jae said, not everyone's body reacts the same way. Genetics play a huge factor. There a few guys in the world who hardly have to do anything to lift weights, and they already have a big built. Some guys can eat anything and everything and they could either still end up skinny or uber obese. The sad truth to all of this is: genetics. Look at LeBron James, that guy's lucky to have that build at such an early age.

I wonder how these NBA players who go to bars and go crazy after games handle it...

Lucky, I wish I weighed more. I look like I'm from a 3rd world country.

6'1" - 130 lbs, or 59 kg

So... basically I'm no help on this one

Damn, there are people in 3rd world countries bigger than you.

 GODDAMN I thought I had problems. I'm 5'8" & 125 (57 kg) but I can blame it on the Asian genes.

I think you should play ball for atleast one more day per week or try to add an hour for each day you play ball. Try to get out there earlier. Shit, considering that I just read your "I am drunk" thread again, get drunk and then play some ball.

You crazy hard-headed f*ck.

As mentioned before, genes, metabolism, exercise, spacing between meals and the amount you eat greatly contributes to weight loss.

Depending on your bodytype, I'm guessing you can still drink beer. It just depends on how much you drink.
I used to be reed-thin thin like Jugs. I let go of myself (like Doobie :P) and my weight ballooned.

I then used to eat at least 3 pieces of chocolate a day, when I was losing weight. I was trying to build up my metabolism by eating light meals regularly, but chocolate was the only ready food source available then. Coupled with exercise, I went from 185 to 155 lbs. (I'm 5'8") in 3 months. When I stopped/substituted the chocolate intake, I dropped 10 lbs. in 2 weeks (145 lbs.), so yes, sugar plays a big part too.
Here's a sample of my daily regimen then:

-Wake up early
-Do cardio for 30-45 mins. (or eat a light snack like 1 egg, or 1 apple if I plan on doing an hour of cardio; related to what cyanide posted)
-Do calisthenics after cardio (push-ups, sit-ups)

I did it everyday, with Sundays the only rest day. It didn't take me more than hour (unless the cardio took 1 hour itself). If I have time as the day goes on, I do the calisthenics again.
I ate 3 light meals (breakfst, lunch, dinner) and a light snack (w/c is usually chocolate) every 3 hours, as mentioned above.

One might say, "you fucking tripping bastard, chocolate and exercise?", but as mentioned before, each person's body responds differently. Fortunately, gorging on chocolate still somehow worked for me. :D
Currently I'm on 160 lbs. right now because I'm currently on weight training (mass build-up), and I also haven't done enough cardio as compared to the weight training.

What exactly is cardio? Is that like excercise bikes and/or running? And also what were in the light meals?

I am in a 3rd world country. Its not that bad as you'd expect. There are a lot of 3rd world countries that aren't like those famine-infested ones you see on Nat Geo. On another note, that is rather shocking considering I'm very skinny but I'm 5'8 and give or take 140lbs. Though my gut seems to be growing and growing while the rest of my body has stayed the same.

Yes, cardio is basically excerises that build up stamina such as running or biking.

Nick wrote:What exactly is cardio? Is that like excercise bikes and/or running? And also what were in the light meals?

Cardio is exercise pertaining to activity which elevates the resting heart rate. This is bodybuilding jargon for moderate to intense aerobic activity.

Aerobic exercise mostly intended to expend calories and burn fat, and of course, strengthen the heart.

Sat Sep 23, 2006 1:07 am

No, no, no, you got it all wrong. Cardio stands for: LAY OFF THE BEER!!!

Nick wrote:What exactly is cardio? Is that like excercise bikes and/or running? And also what were in the light meals?

Cardio is basically running, biking or swimming, to put it in simple terms :P

Meals you can select from a combination of the following:

fruits (I like bananas)
veggies (broccoli, spinach, and asparagus are great)
eggs, but not too much
skim (low-fat) milk
cereal without much sugar (Just Right, Vector, Special K, etc)
oatmeal
skinless chicken breast
anything that says 'turkey' on it
anything that says 'lean meats'
100% whole wheat bread
brown rice
red potatoes

There's more, but these are the big ones that I can think of right now.

Holy crap! I'm like 6'2'' (183cm, damn I don't know that American system) and weight about 72 kilos. Well at least I was weighting that a couple of weeks ago. I don't know how much I weight right now, but I think about 4-5 kilos less. For instance, me and a couple of friends went to play some b-ball. A month ago I could barely touch the rim, today I not only easily reached it, but I managed to make some kind of half-one handed dunk. So I'm pretty happy about this loss, even though it happens I dring beer very oftenly these days. Ok, Nick, sorry for talking about me on your thread, but at least I gave you proof that beer helps you lose weight! :D

Sat Sep 23, 2006 3:53 am

183cm

I think that's 6' or maybe 6'1".

Sat Sep 23, 2006 3:57 am

6' 0.0472441"

Sat Sep 23, 2006 8:47 am

Also I heard that green tea has many good benefits for the body including raising your metabolism

Sat Sep 23, 2006 10:57 am

Lol thanks to the three people that told me what cardio is. :P

Ok, Nick, sorry for talking about me on your thread, but at least I gave you proof that beer helps you lose weight!

That's fine, Gedas. I'm not one of those "oh dont hi-jack my thread. boo hoo" kind of people. Honestly the more people that get help here helps me anyway. The more knowledge the better! so feel free.

And thanks very much, cyanide, for the food listings. That helps a great deal. The turkey one suprises me. We have a sandwhich at work which has turkey, lettuce, swiss cheese, and cranberry stuff on rye (?) bread. So i guess i should aim for that one. Hmm, speaking of which... Working at a sandwhich factory, there's usually extra sandwhiches that i can eat during my break or at the end of the day. But which are most healthy?

- Garden salad (lettuce, carrot, cucumber, avocado spread, i think there might be tomato and onion. on multi-grain bread)
- that turkey one i explained earlier
- tuna (tuna, dill, lettuce. on soy and linseed bread)
umm there's heaps... uhh...
most of them are on white bread tho
- chicken and coleslaw (pretty self explanatory. my favourite sanga. its on soy and linseed bread. has spinach in it.)
- egg and lettuce (egg with mayonaise mixed in it. lettuce. on white bread)
- ham and cheese with dijonaise on soy linseed bread
- ham and cheese on white
- ham cheese tomato
- ham salad (ham, cucumber, lettuce, carrot, some sort of white spread, tomato maybe)
- corned beef with cheese and pickles on white bread
- corned beef with dijonaise and tomato on multi-grain bread
- lemon chicken (chicken with lemon juice, lettuce, tomato. on multi-grain)
there's a lot of different chicken ones.
- peppered chicken (chicken. i dont taste any pepper at all. tomato, lettuce. on white)
- chicken salad (chicken, lettuce, carrot, tomato probably.)
- salami (salami, tomato, pesto. on whole meal)
- cheese and tomato
- cheese and coleslaw
- cheese, lettuce, tomato, fruit chutney on multigrain

i think that's it. Which are most healthy? And is variety a good thing? I try to eat different ones most of the time. And usually i'll have 2 (a couple of times 3 :o ) in a break. But lately i've been having just 1. Which is tough, cos they're so damn good and i'm always left hungry.

aerobic exercise is a small effort extended over a long period of time (jogging, biking, etc.). anaerobic exercise is a large amount of effort over a small amount of time (suicides, sprints, etc.).

on a sidenote, the color, bold, and quote tags in this post are

That sounds so good, I'm hungry.

That one seems pretty healthy.
