I don't know which team was the first to make that decision since a lot of teams have arrived at significant anniversaries in the past couple of years but that wasn't my point. The way I phrased it, I feel, is a better use of the term "bandwagon" but I get what you meant and I agree. With a lot of teams coming up on significant anniversaries, it's become fashionable to celebrate them with a prominently displayed logo that acknowledges the milestone.

I'm going to start up an NBA franchise, and hire a graphics designer to make a logo for our first anniversary!

lmao...u drunk bastard.
yeah, it seems like alot of anniversaries have been coming along lately. i think its also more prevalent b/c teams are using the anniversary logo on their jerseys and courts, unlike years past, when it was just maybe on their website or game programs.

Anyone hear about the New Orleans Hornets getting new unis? I was on another thread and some dude posted this, if this is true this jersey is retarded looking, looks too close to Dallas colors. I hadn't even heard that New Orleans was changing logos or jerseys or anything. Anyone know anything about this?

They're supposed to be getting jerseys with pinstripes, as far as I've heard.
Thu Jul 03, 2008 3:42 am
Jesus, how many teams are changing thier uniforms this year, it kind of pisses me off, teams like Denver and Orlando seem to change every couple of years, can they not keep it the same or are they just trying to sell more jerseys?

yah, theyre getting new jerseys with new wordmarks, along with a tweaked primary logo. i'll scoop a pic of the new primary logo soon.
Thu Jul 03, 2008 5:17 am
WTF?
That's the Dallas Mavericks xD
One thing that now i'm seeing in the new NBA's Unis... that all are becoming more common... There's no more identity and personal colours...
The Hornets should keep their green and yellow...
If the Suns changes their uniforms I will go crazy ¬¬

That's crazy for the bobcats to make an anniversary logo, hence they can't even barely make the playoffs. Silly silly bobcats, why don't they just wait til they reach their 10th year or sumthin. What would they celebrate for their fifth year? Oh I know, for making the lottery in each of their seasons. That's worth celebrating right?
and about the hornets jersey posted above, i highly doubt that that will be their official jerseys, those are complete rip-offs from the current mavs jerseys. I've also heard elsewhere that they'll be getting pin-stipes, makes me wonder if they'll do something similar with the old Charlotte Hornets jersey that had pinstripes.

Paul Lukas, a ESPN columnist, says there will be five teams who will be getting new uniforms next season and one will be getting a new alternate design. Which teams might you ask? Well its the Nuggets, Timberwolves, Magic, Kings, and Hornets, and the alternate design goes to the Milwaukee Bucks.

that was extracted from a flash file on nbastore.com so it might not be exactly like that, but its close to what they'll have.
as for my opinion of it, i think the wordmarks are really nice, but the new Hugo render is a bit meh...looks too cartoony to me and it pales in comparison to the fleur-de-bee as for professionalism and a good NBA look.
Thu Jul 03, 2008 11:01 am
I hope this is just a joke
Thu Jul 03, 2008 12:36 pm
I guess it's not too different but I still think the old logo is the better of the two. It doesn't seem worth it to make such a minor change.
Thu Jul 03, 2008 1:10 pm
But the old hornets logo is still hooked with the old charlotte hornets team..maybe that's the reason why they changed it a bit..but i like the colors..as for the uniforms..kinda look like the jerseys4kids in the nba store..
i know this is irrelevant and may have been posted before..but for newbies..this is fun..for logo afficionados..

Not really, the words "New Orleans" are right there in the logo they've been using from the time they moved from Charlotte up until last season. If they were concerned the logo wasn't distancing themselves from their original home, surely they'd have changed it before now and made it a more drastic change.

I don't really like this year logos updates.. They look old for me (except Orlando's one)
Anyway... Some chances to see the Sonics new logo? Oklahoma Sonics new logo.. I mean

Hey c0nr4d,
Any ideas what the "new" New Orleans uniforms will look like, are they keeping the same colors or is this going to be a total update?

well the colors will be the same as that new primary logo, with the purple being darker and the teal a bit more blue-ish.
as for why they havent completely changed the primary logo:
it costs an ass-load of money to completely change your primary logo/colors (especially if the change is within 5 years of any other change u make), so thats why so many teams are recoloring logos lately. The NBA is trying to keep NBA franchises pure in their marketing schemes, but its back-firing on them when teams change and recolor logos to keep up with the modern trends of the years.
Fri Jul 04, 2008 1:50 am
True, but if the Hornets really wanted a change to move on to a new era and distance themselves from their roots in Charlotte, they would have gone for more drastic changes and footed the bill.
Fri Jul 04, 2008 2:19 am
The jersey need to replace some blue with yellow... so the bee is a bit real... xD
And they lost personality without the yellow... It would be like is the Lakers don't use their gold :S
Fri Jul 04, 2008 2:39 am
I heard that the Sonics are moving to O-City, but that the colors+logos+name will stay in Seattle, I wonder how will the new team will be called and how will it look..
Fri Jul 04, 2008 3:24 am
the old bee is much more badass than this one.
Fri Jul 04, 2008 3:37 am
This new bee looks like a cartoon.
Regarding the jersey, I like the idea if thay keep the yellow in the away jersey.

that jersey is no where near what the real ones will be like....thats just a photoshopped version someone thought was cool
'Drew, i feel what ur saying, i agree that they should foot the bill and do a totally new identity...especially with their recent success, u'd think they have alot of $$$ coming into the franchise. time shall tell.
