Talk about NBA 2K14 here.

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the NBA 2K-games and basketball in general. I had the opportunity to resign Dwyane Wade, but while I still have a lot of room under de hard cap in season '14-'15, it doesn't let me resign him. This is the message I get when I try to resign him:

What am I doing wrong? Are there any rules or something that I forget? As I said, there is a lot of room under the hard cap following my 'Finances' page.
Many thanks,
Jesper

There is a certain hard cap for team salary, or the total amount of salary allowed. Your team is already clogged with big contracts so you can't add another 20M.

Ok, thank you, but is there a way I can resign Wade without having to lose my other big players? I think this is a stupid question, but Wade does already have a 20M salary, how can it be that resigning him for the next season is too much salary? Sorry, I don't really understand the NBA and all its rules yet.

you will probably have to get rid of another player

Ok, but I'm in my first season and LeBron and Bosh only have options in their contract, so actually they can become free agents at the end of the season. Is this the reason why I can't sign Wade? Because the cap is gonna be higher next season, and the salaries of these players (almost) stay the same. How could it be that I 'suddenly' can't resign Wade anymore?

You can't extend Wade's contract because it will make you go over the hard cap. Giving extensions affect the current cap and not the next season (yet) so it doesn't matter if next season the hard cap will increase because currently you don't have enough cap space.

Ok, so I have to let him become a Free Agent, and then I can sign him next season?

Yes, if you have the cap space and signing him won't make you go over the hard cap.
