Honestly modding the game is what really brought me back into 2k13 late in the season. I don't really mind some of the features not being there (crews, my team) but it surprised me that we didn't get a patch at all. That type of stuff is the only thing that I miss about the console version.

But still, for half the price (or less if you wait for a sale) plus the incredible things done by mods, PC is the way to go for me.

It comes down to the lack of VC in the PC version.

Last years handling of the game in Australia was a complete mess for PC. A WHOLE lot of keys weren't activateable at launch, and then once I got a key, I realized that there wasnt any MyTeam mode for the PC. This year sadly, with still no MyTeam or Crew, it doesn't give me any real incentive to go out and buy the new game... especially with the quality of modders and roster updaters we have on this site.

I wouldn't say unhappy. Just a little disappointed in a couple of things.

I am a big fan of My Player mode in 2K12. I didn't purchase 2K13 because I heard that you could only have one player at a time in My Career mode. I bought 2K14 because was curious and wanted to see how much changed in the game and to keep things fresh. I find that the one player at a time in My Career ALMOST disappointing enough to return the game. I also found that the movement looks like console style movement. A little too upright and movements that look a bit unnatural for a human body.

Control wise, I am trying to get used to the new scheme. So far I see nothing to complain about, just adjust to...

And a tiny love/hate thing regarding the draft. I LOVE the fact that my player's name is said when he is drafter. Nice touch. I think the splicing of the sound bytes from the draft on certain players was a bit cheesy and poorly implemented though.

I have only had the game a few hours and probably will need a couple of weeks to see how I really feel about it. My initial impression is leading me to believe that this was $30 bucks well spent.

I'm largely pissed off at the online team-up mode and how the PC version is a no-frills version of the consoles. Whereas the console players can choose who they want to play with and pick teams and players they want to be, the PC user is forced into a game with random people and forced to control a player on a team that is random. I mean, come on. 2k12 actually allowed you to veto a team at the least. And 2k11 allowed you to choose the team. And if I recall correctly, you could create a game and have your friends join your server via direct IP connect. I really don't like playing with FEEBS who refuse to pass the ball and shoot when quintuple-teamed.

Oh and I forgot to mention that God-forbid you try to migrate the game to a new PC or even just lost your password. In order to create a new login, you need a new CD-key. In order to get a new CD-key, you had to contact customer service, send them a picture of the game box, along with your receipt, a picture of the game manual, game cd, screenshot of your failed log in. Then, you had to wait about a week for them to get back to you and send you a code. Unbelievable.

This is also my biggest gripe. Plain and simple there is ZERO excuse for the PC version being current gen vs next gen. Today's PCs are far more powerful than the next gen consoles coming out. NO excuse what so ever to give us a dated engine once again. But I suspect this is another tactic to force us to have to purchase the consoles in order to enjoy next gen quality. So disappointed. This may even be the last pc version of the game if 2k decides to pull an EA like they did with Madden.

Not true. The next gen consoles use interrogated hardware architecture. Pc's use component architecture. Even though the x86 architecture is very common and will most likely be easier to port games, the hardware and operating systems are different from each other.

For example, pc's have two sets of memory. Graphics and system memory. Code had to be written that decides what is loaded into each one. The new consoles share one set of memory for the entire system and coffee is written in a different way to take advantage of that.

Well, to answer your Q, I usually play USER vs. USER playoffs vs friends (we set of association and sim until the playoffs) and offline association (on PC).
As far as disappointment? I haven't gotten the game yet (will tomorrow) but I would have liked it if:

*association would receive at least some love, a dynamic assoc. mode (i.e. reflecting what happnes IRL apart from user played games) would have put me in bball heaven...
*some kind of update for frontend\presentation\scoreboard that does not seem so half-assed...
*Can't for the life of me understand tho why they removed player stats from on the fly HUD, really poor decision IMO.
*fixes for re-occuring bugs (like the shot chart buffer filling up so you cant see all shots).
*some assurance that PC users won't get shafted again in case of a patch.

Other than those gripes, if the game plays as good as iv'e read it does, I'll still be a pretty happy camper since art\scoreboards can and will get modded and I wasn't really expecting meaningful updates to game modes.

Ever heard about "marketing" and "business strategy", son?
Why we may not like it, keeping the NG version console exclusive makes all the sense in the world, since releasing it to the PC market just undermines the power, novelty and "freshness" of the new systems, not to mention the diluted profits stemming from release to the heavily pirated PC market.

I just hope that by 2k15 (or worst case 2K16) we will get the better version for PC as well. Just keeping it real.

I remember the last time we encountered this with NBA Live about 6 years ago. Those EA bums refused to give PC users next-gen graphics. The PS3 and XBOX had them. We didn't. Then they nixed us completely. 2k came to the rescue with NEXT GEN graphics and PC platform! It was such an amazing game. They won me over that day. But I hate to say that the last few years, their online limitations for PC users is really beginning to erode my loyalty to 2k. And now, it looks like they're pulling the same bs of giving the PS4 and XBOX One next gen while leaving us with current gen.

I mostly play Online Association.

I am a member in 3 different organized Online Leagues, that exist for several years now (one of them exists since the old nba live days, nearly 10 years now!).

I like the gameplay improvement they made this year. But what I dislike is the lack of support for PC. There are some issues in the Online Association that exist since its first introduction in 2k12!! Every year I request features that would make life much easier for Admins/Players.
E.g.: They have had so much problems with updating OA rosters in the past. Now that they have an auto-roster update, which will bring out updates nearly every day, I have great doubts, that they will keep up with this pace in OA rosters. Theres a simple solution to that problem: Just let us use our own rosters, so they don't even need to update OA rosters, because we can just choose to use official 2k rosters, if we want.
Also, in 2 of the 3 leagues I'm in, we have something that is called a "dynasty league". We manage our teams through years. They began some time ago and have rules for management. There is a Rookie Draft every year and Free Agency periods after every season. That means in order to get the right teams we have to make a fantasy draft before we start a season. So much UNNECESSARY work, if 2k would just givee us this little option to use own rosters.

Then i really dislike that they try to improve things but just make things worse. They could've copied every single line of code they hat in 2k13 for 2k14, cause they didn't change anything in OA's. But they managed it to break some working things. OA Settings do not save and it's not possible to edit coach settings in OA menu, for example. These two things were possible in 2k13...

Or you remember what bugs there were in 2k13? When you simmed a round during playoffs, often times, the playoffs got simmed till the end. In my opinion they could've easily fixed that with a patch. But all I hear is "not patchable" from those 2k guys. Really? Not patchable? I have seen patches in other games, that were bigger than 1 GB and that changed so many things in a game. And those 2k guys are telling me, it's not possible to fix a simple bug?!

I ended up getting the game today. And it seems like you can barely shoot and the other team can just run away with it. I been messin around with the Lebron path and you can barely shoot in it and this is on rookie mode to.

So I ended up getting the game because people had been telling me how much better than 2K13 it was. I load it up only to find out that my preferred method of play (association coach mode. What? I like coaching) is gone. 2K took out coach mode on the PC because console players were exploiting the heck out of it to get VC last year. So instead of leaving it in for PC only (which still doesn't even have VC), they copy/pasta their changes across the board. I dunno, maybe they didn't want the PC to have at least one feature that the consoles weren't gonna get. Were they afraid of console whining fallout?

So PC users get punished because 2K screws up last year and console gamers take advantage of them? That seems a little unfair. I could be wrong, but removing features on the PC without a good reason sure seems like an extreme lack of innovation.
