Some new moves, animations, new blocking, passing moves...
Graphically - almost nothing changed, maybe little better

These are some of the changes I've noticed from 2K13 to 2K14.

Player Editor
  • You can change which hand the player dunks with.
  • You can change the shot release timing (early, normal, late). In previous 2Ks, it was based on the jump shot animation.
  • They got rid of the "Rookie" labels for the layup packages and added a Swing layup package for swingmen. Some of the guys that had the Classic layup package in 2K13 were given this one instead.
Presentation
  • It looks like they increased the normal map intensity of the players' faces.
  • They added recordings from the 2013 NBA Draft special on ESPN to Stern's draft voiceovers. Unfortunately, they're lower quality than the lines Stern read for 2K Sports so they stick out like a sore thumb.
  • They remixed the White House theme.
  • By default, the 2K Beats playlist is silenced during gym drills, scrimmages, practices and so on.
  • Replays no longer have sound effects.
MyCareer
  • When you simulate to the next important game, you'll receive Twitter messages for the games you didn't play. If I recall correctly, 2K13 didn't do this.
  • When you finish a drill, you can now select another drill immediately afterwards. In previous 2K games, it would boot you back to the MyPlayer home menu after each drill so you'd have to go through loading screens every time.

2K13 does it. Accidentally picked to play the next key game so it auto simmed the games leading up to the key game and I saw tweets from various douchebags referencing those simmed games.

The difference in blocking is probably what stands out the most; being able to block shots at different points, reject dunks and the number of blocks in general.

+ve
- blocking, as per Andrew above
- improved collisions
- improved fast breaks

-ve
- defensive spacing is poor.....with default sliders you'll be giving up 30-40 3pnt attempts per game to the CPU just because your players leave so much space
- likewise the CPU's defensive spacing is poor
- players fatigue at different rates.....big men fatigue faster than guards. If you adjust the sliders then the guards will hardly ever fatigue

and depends where you sit on the debate, the change in controls can be a +/-....initially for me it was terrible but i've gotten used to the new controls
