PC Online Mode

Thu Oct 03, 2013 1:03 am

Can someone tell me what the Team Up Mode is like online for the PC this year? Every year, 2k seems to take away something from the PC version. First, they took away the ability to choose position and player, then they took away blacktop mode.

Last year, they went overboard and took away the option to choose teams and to choose who you want to play with. My friends and I had to constantly try to connect at the same time while avoiding other people who wanted to get in on the game. It would take 30 minutes of quitting and restarting to get a game.
Then, when we finally connected, we would get 2 random crappy teams with random crappy players that was painful to play - you try using PFand C vs PF and C for 4 quarters. The cpu never passed to you.

So sick of being treated like a bastard step-child just because we don't own gay consoles. EA Sports treated us like dirt and finally just ignored us. Good, how's that stock price going for ya?

Online sucks so bad! The lag is unbearable!!! Always has network error tgen online game crashes. So frustrating!!! hows ur experience?

It always shows 4 possible matchups, but after sometime it will go back to searching matches. There are 478 people online and i cant find a match for me? It takes forever for a match to be connected...

Re: PC Online Mode

just because 478 people are online does not mean 478 are searching for online games.

Re: PC Online Mode

Sounds like nothing's changed this year. The servers will lump you in with 4 random people close to you (can't choose who you play with) and will assign a random team and a random player to you. Apparently, 2k feels choice is a bad thing. Why don't they just play the games for us? I'm tired of having the option to go left or right or shoot.

2K fixeth and they taketh away.

Fixed: 1) every drive to the hole resulted in bump animation and missed layup
2) steals were ridiculous

Gone 1) Defense
2) Online choice of teams

What? You can't pick a team?

Re: PC Online Mode

Thu Oct 03, 2013 6:42 am

Nope. Not in Team Up Mode.

Re: PC Online Mode

Oh, Team Up, yeah you couldn't in 2K13 either, position neither if I remember correctly.

LOL, I'm still scratching my head and trying to figure out how to get online mode.

Re: PC Online Mode

Re: PC Online Mode

does anybody know how online works? can somebody explain... thanks.

I hope 2k can do like a p2p thing like nba live in the past. so all we're going to need is an ip address.. or if they can not, may be i should put up a patch request

You can either find a random matchup, or use Online Association to play a game against someone you know.

but the server sucks and the game either lags or disconnects. on 2k13 this problem is atleast not as bad as this year...

in the online association can 2 teams play everytime?

Re: PC Online Mode

as commissioner you unlock all games in one of the menus, then choose the game vs your friend's team. When you're done, delete the online association.

Re: PC Online Mode

Thu Oct 03, 2013 11:43 am

that's a lot of extra steps just to play a single game with my friend..

1.create association
2. send name and password
3. friend search for the online association
4. enters name password
5. commissioner unlocks all games
6. play the game
7. delete association

oh well, atleast there's a work around. but i guess this doesn't stop the game from lagging / network issues..

does anyone else have a hard time just dribbling the ball against online ppl???.. seems like all they do is mash the steal button

I mean forget playing a realistic game cause apparently that isnt possible.. but dam seriously?? Wayyyyyyyy to many steals and turnovers..

the last game i played online was 2k12.. skipped 2k13.. and 2k14 has been so hard for me to get it down..

Seems like all my opponents do is crowd the ball handler.. and 75% of the time knocks the ball lose..

If i pass.. either it gets deflected or my AI teammate goes sprawling out of bounds..

There were even two times i passed to an open teammate in the corner.. and apparently he decided to jump out of bounds before he caught the thing..

was 2k13 like this??? This is a completely different world from 2k12

And the animations on defense!!! my goodness i can appreciate good D as much as the next realistic baller.. but for me it seems everytime i have the ball.. the player defending me is always touching me up.. bodying me up.. animations with my players falling all over the floor from even daring to dribble around them!!

I thought this was 2013/2014.. not the 90s

Seems like handchecking is back in full affect.. what happened to not being able to impede the players progress around the court..

Team up lagged all the time in 2k13 as well, so it's really nothing new there.

don't delete it lol, you'll probably want to play a couple of games with your friend... besides, a huge plus with playing inside an online association is the fact that you can play with custom sliders, not the arcadey stuff quick match has. Also, you can quit and rejoin the association, so you're able to switch teams (not sure about the league creator though, it might delete the league).

Team up mode isn't lagging because of its just you know a broken mode or something, its lagging because of the players. I personally have played team up in 2k12/2k13 (2k11 was practically online leagues all day haha) with 8/9 guys, ppl i know and at 60fps smooth as butter.
Lets say you get to connect 4 players in team up, 3 of them have high fps/internet connection and this one guy have low fps/connection - game will ALWAYS lock to the player with the lowest fps. Same goes for Quick Matches/ OAs. If you see a game is locked at 15fps it means someone has not benchmarked yet.
Anyway, servers are probably down right now for Quick Matches / Team up, but i see ps360 players complaining about it too, so yeah it's 2k, they always have problems with servers at launch, give it a few days. Even though on Tuesday i was able to connect for a quick match pretty easy, it took a second, same goes for team up.
About those numbers you see how many players are online, don't even bother looking at it, 1/3/6/478...not accurate at all. In 2k10 those stats were actually right and the number for ppl playing the game (not necessarily looking/searching for online games) was between 800 and 3000. Now i would say number goes between 500 and 1500 at best.
For playing Quick Matches with a friend i would say its possible, not always but yeah you can connect with a friend if you both hit "Quick Match" at the same time, just wait a few seconds, if does not work, exit and search again, i remember when 2k13 came out last year we tested online quick match with a friend and it connected from the second try. All you need is in-game chat program so you could synch your actions -xfire, steam, skype? hah

Edit. Seems like the servers are up now.

Does this work only in Matchup mode? Can I do it with 4 friends in Team Up?

My workaround for trying to play a single game with a friend was just to do online matchup multiple times until we hook up. Usually, if you search at the same time, there are only a few people looking for matches so if you quit a few times, you'll most likely get matched up with your friend.

I agree. When I finally manage to get my 3 friends together for a game, it runs perfectly smoothly. (we all have low ping, high speed connections and live near to each other). However, when some dude (probably from China) joins in, it's like watching a slideshow. Also, make sure you BENCHMARK your graphics before you go online. If you don't, you will be the main cause for LAG for everyone in the game. One of my friends reset his graphics and didn't benchmark, and it was horrible.

It won't let me log in, even though I have an account from 2k12.

having an account from 2K12 means nothing. You can sign into an existing account, but you need to input your 2K14 CD Key.

Re: PC Online Mode

Fri Oct 04, 2013 3:19 pm

Since yesterday I can not log in to my account
the message I get "The 2K server is temporarily unavailable"

it's just me or for everyone?

Before that everything was fine :|

For all people saying you get "random players", "random teams", and "random teammates" in team-up: That's wrong!

1. There is a pool of possible matchups with a certain order. If you know that order, you can manipulate it (okay that's time-consuming).
2. When people start the search at a close time-frame, they will find each other.
3. You always get the best x players from a team (where x is the number of people on one team). 1st player to join gets best player on team A. 2nd player gets best player on team B. 3rd gets 2nd best on team A and so on.
