Trade Deadline Passes With No Raptors Deal

Image Image Image

February 22, TORONTO – Seattle Stealth GM Will Sit dismissed talk that he had offered PF David Lee in a deal that would have netted his team veteran guard Baron Davis despite rumors that it was Sit's reluctance to part ways with his starting forward that have denied the Suns the chance of acquiring young Raptors PG Chris Hova. The trade deadline passed with no deal involving the Raptors or Suns. There was a lot of speculation leading up to the deadline that Hova would be traded out of Toronto.

Hova, in the last year of his contract, has told reporters this morning that he is happy to stay with his team as they mount a fight to stay in the East's top eight. If successful, the team would make its first playoffs appearance in years. "I'm dedicated to the fans here and my teammates," Hova said, "Coby (Clark) and the Raptors have my full support and I am going to keep improving for us." The Germany did stop short of assuring the franchise that he would be staying with them next season.

Phoenix Suns GM Charles Barkley declined to comment on rumored deal but team captain Martti Must spoke up a day after locking himself in the change room after practice. "I guess I forgot my memory pills yesterday," the Estonian PF stated, "I think it was for the best that we didn't trade for David (Lee) and Chris Hova. Chris Hova is a good player but he wasn't going to help too much and David was going to rot on the bench playing behind me."

Crying would have been 'damn, we needed Hova, I need help, I can't do it by myself', not 'I'm glad we didn't do it.'

Gordon Leads In Debut

Image Image

February 21, DALLASBen Gordon showed Mavs fans why the team has been coveting him since the start of the year when he scored 29 points to lead the new-look Dallas Mavericks against the visiting Detroit Pistons. With that over and done with, Gordon and his new teammates can look forward to the next step of the plan: winning.

The Pistons pulled off a 124-115 win in an entertaining affair between both sides. Mavs’ veterans Andrew Watson and Dirk Nowitzki were happy to take a seat behind Gordon. Each scored 18 points and ably supported the new comer. Watson added 5 assists and Nowitzki grabbed 9 rebounds. “It’s nice to have someone come in and focus on the scoring,” Watson stated. Nowitzki added that he was still recovering from various injuries this season and that the sight of Gordon on the court for Dallas was more than welcome.

Jerryd Bayless has kept his starting spot for the Mavs and added 14 points. Other debutant Lamar Odom had an impressive all-around effort with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists. The Mavs today also traded for Chauncey Billups and he should play his first game as a Mav in the team’s next match.

Charlie Villanueva had a season best 33 points along with 13 rebounds to lead the Pistons to the upset win in Dallas. Thaddeus Young dropped 20 and Brook Lopez added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Stealth Win But Lose Bogut

Image Image

February 24, NEW JERSEY – The Seattle Stealth pulled off a 117-113 win against the Nets in New Jersey but came away losing All-Star big man Andrew Bogut in the final moments of the match. The diagnosis after the game was a sprained wrist, an injury that will keep the affable Aussie out for a month.

Reshawn Tyson (29 points, 7 rebounds) and Kevin Durant (27 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 6 blocks) once again carried the Stealth. Durant was crucial down the stretch as he scored 8 points in the closing minutes of the match. Bogut was effective by finishing with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks.

Chris Bosh finished the game with 32 points and 8 rebounds. DJ Schmidt was also strong with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Carmelo Anthony was slowed down by Durant and managed just 15 points. The Nets looked a lot more impressive than when the teams last met but just could not beat the Stealth in crunch time. “Seattle was much more poised in the end,” Anthony admitted, “I put up some bad shots in the end. It’s all about execution.”

Bogut is averaging 15.2 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 5.7 apg, 1.0 spg and 2.2 bpg this season. Stealth Head Coach George Karl has already decided to allow fifth year centre Rocky Akonnor take the starting position. “Rocky has worked hard since coming into the league,” Karl spoke of the team’s second round draft choice from 2009, “It’s been a long time coming. I think this opportunity is well deserved. The popular reserve big man is averaging 1.4 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.1 apg and 0.7 bpg this season. He has played 241 games for Seattle over his career. He will start his first NBA game in Seattle’s next match.

That sort of scoreline is what I worried about with the trade. Losing Dela Cruz's defense sucks, but we needed more offensive punch. We're just going to outgun opponents I guess & hope Darko can protect the rim a bit better.

Yep. Somehow you guys let Charlie Villanueva have a breakout game

That said, the deals made by Cuban and Co made a lot of sense. Get back to your identity and add some scoring punch. You guys got through first round last season because of offense. However, with that said, losing an All-Defensive first team player is a tough tough loss.

And the Blazers may have lost their leading scorer but it allows Brandon Roy to go back to his SG spot - which he has not played in for years - and Dela Cruz slots in nicely at SF.
